Swift Hydrogen

Swift Hydrogen

Developer of low-cost mobile hydrogen refuelling equipment for a zero-emission transportation sector

  • In the global effort to reduce CO2 emissions and meet net-zero by 2030, hydrogen and hydrogen refuelling technology has become the leading solution to decarbonising the transport sector.
  • Swift Hydrogen (formerly NanoSUN) is working to make hydrogen transportation a reality. This can be achieved by enhancing existing hydrogen refuelling methods and introducing new hydrogen technologies to deliver an efficient and low-cost hydrogen refuelling infrastructure the transport industry can depend on – delivering a cleaner, greener future.
  • As a key player within the hydrogen industry, Swift Hydrogen received considerable backing from both the UK and EU and had been awarded with valuable funding from prestigious organisations across the UK and Europe looking to support innovative, hydrogen refuelling solutions. Examples of some of the projects:

Innovative Hydrogen Technology for a Better Future

Red Diesel Grant
Enabling off-road applications to transition away from red diesel.
In May 2022, BEIS announced NanoSUN the winning recipient of its Red Diesel Replacement Competition, awarding over £450k in funding to develop a flexible and affordable hydrogen refuelling infrastructure for off-road environments and hydrogen non-road mobile machinery (NRMM).
NanoSUN’s engineering team are now actively developing its Pioneer Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station for off-road applications, which will enable the NRMM sector to cease using red diesel and move to hydrogen as a zero-emission alternative.
Project Cherry
New, reliable method for cooling hydrogen
Awarded £170k of funding by the Department of Transport, NanoSUN Research & Development Team is working closely with Innovate UK to deliver a cost-effective and appropriate cooling solution that will support the delivery of an efficient and reliable refuelling infrastructure for hydrogen fuel vehicles.
Current solutions to the rise in temperature of hydrogen in vehicle tanks are inefficient, with a highly reliable method for cooling hydrogen between refuelling solutions and hydrogen powered vehicles required.
EIC Accelerator
Pioneer HRS innovation, development and scaleup
2021 saw the European Commission select NanoSUN as one of Europe’s most promising start-ups against over 4,200 applications. As part of its EIC
Accelerator Programme, in collaboration with Horizon 2020, NanoSUN received over €2m in funding to design and deliver 2 of its Pioneer Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling stations, as the best-in-class low-cost mobile hydrogen refueller for a zero-emission transportation sector.
NanoSUN has since began the manufacture and scale-up of its Pioneer145, ready for heavy-duty vehicle trials this year, along with the development of a compression unit to allow for the Pioneer units to be filled with hydrogen.
